The Santander Governorate and the National Registry of Civil Status They confirmed that Bucaramanga will hold atypical elections to elect mayor on December 14, 2025.
The decision responds to the ruling of the Council of State that annulled the election of the mayor Jaime Andrés Beltrán due to double militancy, generating the need to define the remaining position until 2027.

“The Registry Office is technically prepared to fulfill its functions and carry out the new election for the mayor of Bucaramanga on December 14, 2025, once the convocation decree is issued.”, he noted.
He also explained that the elections will not be held jointly with those of the municipality of Girón, given that the latter has not been formally notified about the decision of the Council of State.
According to the established schedule, the decree convening would be issued on the same Friday that the announcement was made, and it would be immediately sent to the Registrar so that the electoral calendar could be formalized. Registration of candidatures will begin on October 14 and will continue until the 29th of that month.

Registry
The atypical election seeks to cover the remainder of the period of the current term of local government, that is, until December 31, 2027. Both the Government and the Registrar’s Office have stated that they will guarantee the logistical, security and transparency conditions necessary for the electoral process to be carried out normally.
