This is the city in Colombia with the lowest unemployment rate, according to Dane

A few days ago, President Gustavo Petro highlighted in his X social network the decrease in unemployment to 8.2% in the month of November 2024 compared to 9% in the same month last year. In this same context, The National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) announced which is the city where there is the lowest proportion of unemployed people.

From the official website of the Mayor’s Office of Medellín, They indicated that the city continues to consolidate itself as the area with the least unemployed in Colombia. “For the September-November 2024 quarter, the District recorded an unemployment rate of 6.8%.while with its Metropolitan Area the figure reached 7.4%, remaining in first place nationally.”

On the other hand, during In the September – November 2024 quarter, the city presented a reduction lower than the national average, which is 8.8%.

At this stage of the year, 68,754 more people were employed in the District, which means that it contributes 68.6% of the 100,196 employed people in the Metropolitan Area.

In the Dane report, in turn, other cities such as Bucaramanga, with 8.3%; Manizales8.4%; Bogota8.5%; Cali, 9.5%; Pereira9.6%; Cucuta 10.9; and Barranquilla, 11.7%.

“Medellín continues to make history in terms of employment. According to the Dane report (September-November), published today, Medellín has the lowest unemployment rate in the country and in history, going from 8.1% to 6.8%. In the Metropolitan Area we went from 8.4% to 7.4%. “We end the year with good news for the city that continues to generate employment and opportunities for its people, thanks to trust and teamwork with businessmen,” stated the mayor of the city, Federico Gutiérrez.

Regarding the sectors that generated the most jobs, they are “activities related to public administration and defense, education and human health care, with an increase of 30,932 employees, followed by the manufacturing industry 28,734, and in third place construction, which registered an increase in employees of 16,459.”
