This is intended to raise CDMX in 2026, the World Cup year

For next year, the capital government expects income for a total of 313,385 million pesos, a figure that represents an increase of 7.5% compared to what was projected for 2025.

One of the largest increases in income expected in the World Cup year is linked to the arrival of tourists, since the tax on lodging services is projected to increase by 15.1% for 2026, that is, 1,079 million pesos more.

It is followed by the payroll tax, where the capital government expects to collect 10.8% more next year, which is equivalent to 4,964.6 million pesos.

Regarding the property tax that must be paid by those who own land, houses, apartments, premises and buildings, an increase of 9.6% is projected on the collection in the capital, with 2,464.3 million pesos more.

In the tax on public spectacles such as concerts, plays, sporting events such as the World Cup itself, fairs and exhibitions – which also have the potential to attract tourists – an increase of 9.4% in collection is expected during 2026, with 68.8 million pesos more than in 2025.

According to the capital’s Secretariat of Administration and Finance, 51.3% of the income recorded by Mexico City is its own income, which gives it a greater degree of autonomy and places it as the federal entity with the greatest collection capacity in the country. This generated a AAA credit rating from international agencies such as Moody’s, HR Ratings and Fitch.
