Before appointed minister of Atmosphere, the geographer Wilber Dux knew, considered that the departure of Repsol of Peru in the face of the serious environmental crisis caused by the oil spill in the sea of Window, on January 15.
After the spill of crude oil during the unloading process in front of the La Pampilla Refinery (operated by Repsol), Knew Quisocala declared for the RT channel as a geographer from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) and pointed out that the multinational has acted without transparency, hiding information and that it reports infractions and faults against the environment.
“the multinational Repsol It has been characterized by not having transparency in providing the information, initially it reported that there were 7 barrels that had accidentally spilled (into the sea) but according to the investigations, it has been shown that it is a lie and that it has been about 1,600 barrels those that were dumped into the Peruvian sea,” he said during a march in Plaza San Martín against the transnational.
It should be noted that the data that Supo shared in the interview was inaccurate, since Repsol’s first estimate was 0.16 barrels of oil spilled into the sea, while the Peruvian authorities initially assured that there were 6,000. Later calculations put the figure at 11,900 barrels dumped into the ocean.
“So that we can see that Repsol is a transnational that lacks transparency and that also has a long history of infractions and faults against the environment, in such a way that its situation has to be evaluated in Peru and therefore it is possible to demand its departure from Peru.”, added Knew Quisocala.
To date, the Environment sector announced the stoppage of hydrocarbon loading and unloading operations at the La Pampilla refinery, considering that “clear cleaning and remediation actions have not been evidenced in the face of the disaster caused”.
The measure will be lifted when a Management Plan for Hydrocarbon Spills at Sea and the updated certifications by the competent authorities that guarantee the operation of the terminals are presented to the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA).
