Now, the operation of this type of applications is extensive in Colombia but, until now, it lacks a clear regulation. Uber It left Colombia on January 31, 2020 and returned on February 20 of that same year, under regulations that did not present changes, adjusting its operation to current law, with a ‘vehicle rental with driver’ model.
Currently these digital platforms it represents 0.23% of GDP, according to Bloomberg. That is, 300 million dollars. For example, Uber has more than 9 million users and employs 73,000 drivers.
One of those who has fought to advance in this field is Congressman Maurice Bull. For this reason, from the sector and some senators have stated that the new Government has as a challenge the regulation of transport platforms that has not been given in 8 years.
For his part, the president-elect Gustavo Petro He stated in his proposals that he will promote a national taxi platform and the elimination of intermediaries for drivers of this type of service such as Uber.
During 2021, 6,589 private vehicles were immobilized in Bogotá for violating the National Traffic Code by providing illegal transportation services, according to figures from the District Mobility Secretariat and the Bogotá Police Section.
The fine reaches $895,000 pesos.

For now, in much of the country, the only authorized individual public transport service is the taxi.
