The Superintendence of Electricity (SIE) issued two resolutions on the recharging of vehicles that use electrical energy, one establishes the standards for the installation of electricity recharging stations and the second is on the rates for this service.
The entity explains that these regulations were submitted to consultation and presented at a public hearing; ensures that they contribute to creating the right scenario for the National Strategic Plan for Electric Mobility who directs the National Institute of Transit and Transportation (Intrant) with the support of Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The electricity distribution companies and the charging stations for electric vehicles have 90 days to adjust to the new provisions of both resolutions, which begin to be counted from the day they were made public.
Point out that the organization of the electric mobility segment is an important step for the Dominican Republic to meet the goal of reducing current greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by the year 2030, since 46% of CO2 emissions are produced by the transport that consume 40% of the country’s demand for hydrocarbons.
The SIE reports that there are currently 350 public electricity recharging points for the 11,305 four- and two-wheeled vehicles that circulate, according to statistics from the General Directorate of Customs; and the country already has a law on incentives for the import of non-conventional energy vehicles in force since July 2013.
Both resolutions (SIE-137 and SIE-138 2022) respond -says the SIE- to the urgent “need of general interest” to develop an electro-mobility market, and to “regulate and supervise” installationconnection and operation of charging stations for electric vehicles, and the correct marketing and billing of this public service.

The SIE indicates that the resolution 138 introduces reforms to the existing resolution on rates for charging stations for vehicles powered by electricity. Establishes the rates applicable to public electricity distribution service providers, and to managers of public charging infrastructure for electric cars.
Resolution 137 explains the sierestablishes “the technical standards and security for the connection of electric vehicle charging stations located in public, private or private places for public use”, connected to electricity distribution networks.
In addition, it includes administrative aspects what regulate the installations of recharging stations, related to the construction, interconnection and authorization to offer the service. The quality of the equipment and materials to be used in the recharging stations must be certified by the Dominican Institute of Quality (Indocal). These service facilities will be subject to periodic inspection by technical personnel from the SIE and the indocal.
