“Initially, the measurement of these indices was being done in Cauca and Valle del Cauca, but we decided to broaden that spectrum to answer four questions: to know how each municipality is compared to the others in each objective; identify which are the SDGs that have more or less compliance; to know how this municipality is facing the national goal and to know how the municipalities in general evolve over time ”, explained María Isabel Ulloa, executive director of ProPacífico.

Ulloa added that this tool “It is a contribution that we make from ProPacífico to the entire country, as we consider that it is very important to develop tools that allow us to make decisions regarding the fulfillment of these fundamental goals at the global level.l “.

This tool can calculate 73 indicators at the municipal level, 33 goals and 14 SDGs of the 17 that are on the UN agenda. As of 2020, 3 municipalities in Colombia have an outstanding level in terms of compliance with the SDGs, 107 have a satisfactory level, 581 with a medium level, 369 with a low level, and 62 municipalities have a critical index.

In Colombia, the SDGs that concentrate the highest proportion of municipalities with the highest levels of compliance are SDG 3 (Health and well-being), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and strong institutions) and SDG 2 (Zero hunger). The SDGs that concentrate the highest proportion of municipalities with low levels of compliance are SDG 4 (Quality education), SDG 1-10 (End of poverty and reduction of inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships to achieve the objectives ).

Antioquia, Bogotá and Cundinamarca have the municipalities with the best performance in the Municipal Sustainable Development Index, IDSM, while Guajira, the Pacific Coast and the Llanos region have the municipalities with the worst performance.
