The Dane revealed this Monday, February 28, that during the first month of the year, the unemployment rate in the country stood at 14.6%. In January 2021 it was 17.5%, which represents a drop of 2.9 percentage points.

However, the figure for January is higher than the unemployment figure for December when it reached 11%.
Against this background, there are several political and economic leaders who have spoken about it. Among them, the President Ivan Duquewho pointed out that the figure aims to close gaps and grow in equity.

Regarding the figure, the president of the Confecamaras, Julian Dominguez: “The 2.9% decrease in unemployment in January compared to the same month in 2021 is important news, given that 1.58 million Colombians joined the labor force.”
He added that the challenge remains great because the unemployment rate remains high, 14.6%, for which his call is for the country to close ranks to support business activity and the generation of investment, since it is the private sector that generates more than 80% of formal employment and is a permanent source of opportunities for the country’s human capital.
“In this objective, it is key to advance training with relevance through dual education, where the university curricula are synchronized with the needs of the business sector, which is a win-win given that it allows greater labor engagement and increases productivity. from the country“, he commented.
