This is how a Dominican great-great-grandmother who turned 100 sees life

100 years agowhen electricity and drinking water were difficult to access and life suffered from many deficiencies in the country; the artificial intelligence was also science fiction, Natividad Severino was born in 1925 and saw how the world was transformedfrom the most basic to the most advanced. Severino describes his childhood like a very full stagemarked by work and by the teachings of her mother, who instilled in her discipline, responsibility and values. She is the fourth of six siblings, with whom she claims to have lived a happy childhood, despite the limitations of the time.

His life was spent in the countryside, in the house of Sweet GuavaHato Mayor, where from a very young age he learned value of work. There they dedicated themselves to housework, raising animals and cooking.

He attended school and combined study with the daily responsibilities that life demanded. rural life.

Later, as an adult, she dedicated herself to her home. I had a filled and sold milkactivities with which she managed to get ahead together with her husband.

She was married to Vicente Corderowith whom he shared more than 67 years of marriage. Her husband passed away in 2011, leaving a story of union and companionship that deeply marked her life.

Regarding her health, Severino has had circulation problems since she was 50 and underwent surgery on her leg after a fall. Even so, for much of her life she was a healthy womanstrong and hardworking, so she didn’t feel the years go by.

Despite the aches and pains own of the agehe stays at home and feels better.

3,920 centenarians in the country

In the Dominican Republic there were as of 2022 some 3,920 centenariansaccording to the X National Population and Housing Census carried out by the National Statistics Office (ONE), which showed a general population of 10,773,983 inhabitants.

Of that amount, 1,454 were men and 2,466 women who were or were over 100 years of age.
