The mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, made a categorical call to the Metropolitan Police to take the city’s pedicabs out of circulation, since Currently, the capital has an integrated mobility system and a sufficient fleet to meet the citizens’ transport demand.
(What will the wagons of the first line of the Bogotá Metro be like?).
According to the District Administration, In the city there are about 5,000 of these illegal vehicles that are concentrated in the Bosa, Patio Bonito or El Tintal sectors.where there have even been serious accidents due to the mobility of this means of transport.
Previously, these areas were allowed to operate due to the lack of short-distance routes, but the mayor pointed out that with the entry of more buses into the system and better mobility, “there is no justification” for the pedicabs to continue operating.
“I ask our Police to increasingly remove these informal pedicabs and motorcycle taxis, there is no longer any justification”Lopez indicated.
(Transport apps raise rates: this has been the rise due to inflation).
Even the president asked the Police to begin to control these illegal operators who do not have permission to circulate, especially if they do so with motors, since they are the ones that pollute the most.
(The pedicab could only be done in vehicles without a motor).
The Mayor’s Office does not rule out that there may be agreementsalthough it reiterates that the rule will be enforced.
“Two and a half years ago it was because there were no SITP routes but there are already enough. There is no justification for us to have illegal transport, since there is already legal transport. correcting what we lack”said Mayor López.
