A fight in a prison in Ecuador left thirteen prisoners dead and two injured on Monday, reported the state body in charge of prisons SNAI.

“Unfortunately, Center staff currently reports 13 PPL (persons deprived of liberty) deceased and 2 injured,” the entity said through its Twitter account.

The SNAI added that with the support of the police and military “control is regained” of the prison in the town of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. (80 km west of Quito), where the new revolt between inmates took place.

In May there was a riot in that prison, which left at least 44 prisoners dead, including two Venezuelans, and eleven wounded, including a policeman.

During that revolt, 220 inmates escaped. Almost all were recaptured.

Earlier, the SNAI indicated that “a fight is registered inside the prison” of Santo Domingo, for which it immediately requested the support of the Police, the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Health.
