Third vigil announced in honor of Virgen de la Altagracia

The Bishopric of higuey and Banco Popular Dominicano announced the transmission of the third vigil “For the love of the Virgin”, in honor of the Virgin of Altagracia.

Through a statement, Banco Popular Dominicano reported that “it is a live event from the Basilica of higuey, which will start minutes before midnight next Saturday, January 21, until 8 in the morning and which can be followed through the Color Visión signal, channel 9 as the official station; and the simultaneous transmission in more than 15 national channels and in the United States and in digital media of the Basilica and Banco Popular”.

He explained that the production of vigil is inspired by the messages of Pope Francis for the celebration of the World Day of Peace in 2023, in which the Catholic pontiff recalls: “Although the events of our existence seem so tragic and we feel pushed into the dark and difficult tunnel of injustice and suffering, we are called to keep our hearts open to hope.

“By this virtue, thousands of Dominicans are called to join this vigil from their homes, in the country and in other latitudes, to honor the protective and spiritual mother of the Dominican Republic, through prayers, testimonies and songs that highlight the Virgin as mother of the church and mother of the Catholic faith ”, he indicated.

Content of the vigil

The transmission will begin at 11:55 p.m. on Friday, January 20, to introduce the Festival of the Bells, when the clock strikes midnight on the 21st, and then an opening mass will be celebrated by Monsignor Antonio Camilo, bishop emeritus of La Vega, after which the vigilchaired by Father Evaristo Areché Freijomil, rector of the Basilica of higuey.

The National Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of maestro José Antonio Molina, will also offer some pieces from the Altagraciano Concert held in 2018, as well as a special presentation with the KORIBE chamber choir, directed by Nadia Nicola, who will be performing the “Ave María” by the master Rafael Solano, a religious composition inspired by the Virgin of Altagracia.

“Moments of devotion will be lived, with prayers and silences, in which thanks will be given to the Virgin, and testimonies of miracles performed by visitors to the Basilica will be heard. The faithful will be able to contemplate a “Rosary of Peace” performed by children and their families, and a “Rosary of Aurora”, by the sisters of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará congregation,” he said.

At the end, the singer-songwriter José Antonio Rodríguez and the musical producer and arranger Manuel Tejada will unite for the first time in the Basilica in a special moment with the song “Somos Amantes de la Paz”, a song written by José Antonio Rodríguez and Víctor Víctor, in the 80’s it became a hymn to harmony in the world.
