He Fluminense announced this Wednesday the departure of Thiago Silva who puts an end to the second stage of the 41-year-old Brazilian veteran defender in the Rio team after terminating the contract he signed until 2026.
“Thiago Silva, who returned to the club last year as a legend of world football, leaves a legacy of dedication and love for Fluminense. The club thanks the player for all his dedication and professionalism throughout his career and wishes him much success in his new stage,” The institution stated through its official channels.
Emerging from the club’s youth ranks, Silva returned to Fluminense in May of last year, after 16 seasons in European football, where he established himself as an idol in clubs of the stature of AC Milan and Chelsea.
Captain since his arrival, the defender accumulated 212 games and 19 goals with the tricolor shirt, highlighting his achievements in winning the Brazilian Cup in 2007.
Their last match in Rio de Janeiro was last Sunday against Vasco da Gama in the semifinals of the Brazilian Cup, which ended with the defeat and elimination of ‘Flu’ on penalties.
