They would protest if there is no private wage readjustment proposal

The trade union centrals develop a battle plan take to the streets if employers do not present a proposal to materialize a salary increase for employees of non-sectorized private companies.

The unions maintain their demand for a rise in 35% to the minimum wage.

“Undoubtedly, we came to waste time, because the employer sector has no proposal; He is still studying without a defined period of time”, said yesterday the president of the Autonomous Confederation of Class Members (CASC), Gabriel del Río.

The businessmen did not attend the first meeting and sent a letter; to the second, they swore their representatives before the National Wage Committee (CNS); and the third -yesterday-, they swore in the new president of the Employers’ Confederation of the Dominican Republic (Copardom), Laura Peña Izquierdo, as part of the team.

“We’re not done, and opportunely we will bring a proposal”, expressed the new Copardom holder.

Without date

According to the president of the National Council of the Union UnitRafael (Pepe) Abreu, the businessmen presented themselves without a proposal and want to continue postponing, but without a date.

He added that, in order to avoid a breach of the National Wage Committeethe confederations decided to leave the call for the next meeting to the CNS.

“We decided that the government side act and proceed to the next calland in that call the businessmen present their proposal,” he said.

In parallel, the plants will gather their union table to develop an action plan, in case the businessmen keep postponing the meeting.

Points to consider Salary policy:

  • A tripartite pact to redefine labor income
  • Increase wages for inflationary adjustment automatic annual salary and earned labor productivity as an official salary adjustment mechanism
  • Anchor wages to the basic basket in the medium term. To avoid wage precariousness and dilute the purchasing power of wages, the policy of anchoring wages to the cost of the basic food basket must be adopted. With this, salary discussions would have a concrete indicator of the cost of living, which adjusts better than inflation as an indicator of salary indexation.
  • Promote from the State the spaces for collective bargaining. Collective bargaining as an instrument to generate consensus between employers and workers, if strongly promoted by the State, can constitute support for better working and salary conditions
  • Freedom of association and trade union freedom. The country must have the support of a salary policy that considers freedom of association and union as a support tool. This right is constantly violated, weighing down and weakening the working sector
  • Social security reform. This should be an objective of the labor sector, since it affects their quality of life in terms of health, decent and safe work, while they retire in dignity. Solidarity must be above the market in this line

Current classification of companies:

  1. Microenterprises are those with up to 10 workers and gross sales of up to 8 million pesos per year.
  2. Small businesses, from 11 to 50 workers and gross sales of between 8 and 54 million pesos in annual sales
  3. The medium ones, from 51 to 150 workers and sales from 54 to 202 million pesos in annual sales
  4. The large ones, with more than 150 workers and more than 202 million pesos in annual gross sales.
