The Attorney General’s Office articulates a second version of the Pandora case involving officers and subordinates of the National Police in the theft of ammunition, many of which were sold to Haitian gang members.

A source linked to the investigation revealed to El Nacional that the PGR continues to interrogate law enforcement agents and that the possibility of structuring a second phase of the case is being studied, as happened with Coral and Coral 5G.

In recent weeks, around eight new agents have been requested by the PGR to be interrogated in the ammunition theft case.

On Thursday the Minister of the Interior and Police, Faride Rafulreported that this institution continues to work with the Public Ministry on the cases of the agents involved in the theft of ammunition from the Weapons Superintendence of the PN.

“There are details that we cannot give because we already empower the Public Ministry and it is working in that direction. The Public Ministry has done the work that needs to be done and more details will come out in the coming days,” Raful revealed.

In that sense, he said that the director of the Police has been the main collaborator in that case and that he is committed to reform in the institution.

Pandora case

On the 26th of this month, Judge Fátima Veloz, of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District, imposed 18 months preventive detention on seven police officers of the 10 accused of theft of ammunition, who were sent to serve prison at the Special Operations military detention center in Manoguayabo, Santo Domingo Oeste.

While another three were imposed a financial guarantee, an impediment to leaving and periodic presentation. Civilian Miguelina Bello Segura was placed under house arrest at her residence in Pedernales.

On the 16th of this month, the Public Ministry launched the Operation Pandoraagainst a criminal network made up of agents of the National Police, headed by the colonel who directed the Arms Administration of said institution. This network stole more than 900,000 projectiles.

The investigation that led to Operation Pandora began last October, following a joint request from the Ministry of the Interior and Police and the general director of the uniformed services.

More than 200 agents from special units of the National Police, the Preventive Police and the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DICRIM) participated in the investigations, and more than 40 prosecutors who carried out raids in the National District and the provinces of Santo Domingo, Santiago, Sánchez Ramírez and Pedernales.

During the operation, Colonel Narciso Antonio Féliz Romero, who was in charge of the custody of the weapons and ammunition, was arrested.as well as the deputy mayor Juan Miguel Pérez Soler. Also arrested were Captain Nelson Valdez, responsible for the Weapons, Ammunition and Equipment Depot; and others.

Seizures in operation

Through Operation Pandora, weapons, projectiles, digital evidence, hundreds of economic transactions, testimonial evidence and data extracted from electronic devices were seized, consolidating a robust set of evidence to present before the investigating judge.
