They will reinforce surveillance after burning of 150 containers in San Cristóbal

The mayor of the San Cristóbal municipality, Silfredo Zambrano, together with the Secretary of Citizen Security and director of Politáchira, Chief Commissioner Wilman Rivera Torres, announced a reinforced security deployment to counteract the burning and vandalism of garbage containers, a problem that has affected more than 148 units in the capital of Tachira.

From the site where the burning of three containers was evident this week, Zambrano regretted that 46 of these units have been burned in their entirety, and 102 vandalized (with theft of lids and mistreatment), totaling almost 150 containers affected in different sectors such as La Concordia, Quinimarí, fifth and seventh avenues, Carabobo, during the year.

The local president described the event as a “disproportionate” and “insane” action that threatens the maintenance and cleaning of the city, at a time when the mayor’s office and the Government, led by Freddy Bernal, are expanding a waste management plan and have inaugurated a Solid Waste Collection Center.

“This is not a good for the mayor or the governor, it is a public good that belongs to everyone,” Zambrano emphasized, while urging the population to collaborate with the complaint to preserve the quality of life and prevent San Cristóbal from being “full of garbage again, as happened for many years.”

Security deployment

For his part, Chief Commissioner Wilman Rivera Torres confirmed that, after a complaint and thanks to intelligent patrolling supported by cameras in commercial premises, a citizen was arrested in flagrante delicto while she was burning a container.

“Today it is at the disposal of the Public Ministry, it has already been presented, and it remains there at the headquarters of the Táchira State Police,” said Rivera Torres, who highlighted the effectiveness of the intelligence work.

In compliance with the instructions of Governor Bernal and the general commander of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB), the Secretary of Security announced the activation of the PNB Environmental Police, which will join the efforts of the State Police and the Municipal Police within the peace quadrants.

This articulation seeks to be more effective in the face of vandalism, which is considered a crime that harms all citizens.

Rivera Torres called for reflection and citizen action to immediately report any person who commits this type of act against municipal assets.
