They will present ‘The capital of the sun’, a work dedicated to the Cuban exile in Miami

MIAMI, United States. – This Saturday, December 21, at 7:00 pm (local time), it will take place in Madrid, Spainthe theatrical reading of the work The capital of the sun. Tragicomedy in three acts (Bokeh, Leiden, 2024), by the Cuban writer and playwright César Pérez.

The presentation will take place specifically at the Arenales Bookstore, located at Calle de Vallehermoso 110, in the Madrid neighborhood of Chamberí.

The event is part of the fourth edition of “Readings at the End”, a series coordinated and produced by the creative collective Forma Foco, which “in this edition has the support of the Spanish-American foundation FUNDarte“, according to a statement sent to the editorial office of CubaNet.

The cycle includes a total of 12 readings and performative actions between November 2024 and April 2025, “with the aim of consolidating the presence of Cuban authors in the Spanish cultural environment and promoting new projects and spaces for collaboration.”

The inaugural session will include the participation of renowned actors, among which stand out María Isabel Díaz LagoBeatriz Viñas, Rey Montesinos, Carlos Alejandro Halley, Raúl Capote, Grisell Monzón, Betiza Bismark, Claudia Muñiz and Michel Labarta.

The work The capital of the sun takes place in Miamiconsidered by the author as “that other Cuban capital,” where the survival of the exile occurs “between the unscrupulous and the shady.”

César Pérez (Vueltas, Villa Clara, 1973) is a poet, playwright, translator and novelist. This is his first literary publication. Trained in journalism at the University of Havana and with master’s degrees in Hispanic literatures at the University of Iowa and Harvard University, he has lived in Boston, Massachusetts since 2004.

FUNDarte, a multidisciplinary non-profit organization with two decades of work, is dedicated to the production, presentation and promotion of Hispanic art and culture, promoting the visibility of emerging artists and facilitating intercultural exchange.

For its part, Forma Foco—founded in Madrid in 2023 by Aminta D’Cárdenas, Lester Alvarez Meno, Solveig Font and Julio Llópiz-Casal—focuses on cultural production and the exhibition of projects that make visible the creativity of marginalized people for reasons political, racial, sexual, gender and economic, with special attention to Cuban culture both inside and outside the Island.
