As reported by Cuban Book Institute, The ingenuity It addresses not only the economic aspects of the plantation, but also its social, political and cultural repercussions.
The monumental research is structured in three volumessaid the Cuban news agency.
The first examines the history of the plantation, the organization of the slave system, social relations in ingenuity, slave market and the evolution of sugar technology between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The second volume offers, on the one hand, a detailed analysis of the daily life of the enslaved – their food, medical care, sexual and reproductive practices – and, on the other, the behavior of the international sugar market in the 19th century, key to understanding the crisis of the slave model on the island.
The third part brings together three appendices: essential statistics to interpret the boom and decline of the plantation, a glossary of terms linked to sugar production and the bibliography used by the author.
