They will pay tribute to Carlos Alberto Montaner at the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora

MIAMI, United States. – The Interamerican Institute for Democracy (IID) Next Tuesday, September 20, a tribute will be paid to the Cuban journalist, writer and politician Carlos Alberto Montaner, who presided over that organization between 2015 and 2019.

During the event, which will take place at the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora (Miami), the IID will present Montaner with the Francisco De Miranda Award for the Defense of Freedom and Democracy, the highest award granted by that non-profit institution.

The tribute to Montaner will feature interventions by Gerardo Bongiovanni, Armando Codina, Marcell Felipe, Alberto Ibargüen, Gina Montaner, Rosa María Payá, Tomás Regalado, Carlos Sánchez Berzaín, Sam Verdeja.

The organizers of the event “invite the media and the community to this ceremony in recognition of a life of dedication to the great cause of the freedom of the writer, politician and journalist of Cuban origin with the greatest recognition in the world today.”

Carlos Alberto Montaner remains a member of the Consultative Council and President of the Editorial Fund of the Interamerican Institute for Democracy and will be honored prior to his departure to Spain, the country where he settled in the 1970s.

In June of this year, Carlos Alberto Montaner announced in an open letter that he suffered from Parkinson’s disease and that, for this reason, he would leave the radio program the morning sunof RCC Media, in which he collaborated for more than ten years.

Montaner, 79, is a regular contributor to CubaNet and various Cuban independent media. Likewise, dozens of newspapers in Latin America, Spain and the United States have published his texts for more than three decades.
