“The Supreme Court declared the decree appropriate or valid, because they also challenged it, now according to the criteria that is being applied, that decree is not taken into account,” he explained.
The Mayan Train, which is expected to be inaugurated at the end of 2023, faces a legal battle, as happened at the time with the construction of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport. Until October 2021, it had more than 25 amparos, to which five have been added against Section 5, which will run from Playa del Carmen to Tulum.
The president insisted that behind these protections there are economic interests, however, he trusted that his work will continue.
“We are going to go to another instance or resources are going to be presented so that the protection does not proceed because it is unfounded, this is a political issue of those who do not want the work to be carried out, they are pseudo-environmentalists, financed by large companies especially of tourism, and also by foreign governments”, he referred.
“The work is going to continue, as the section is not long, even if the work is stopped, we are going to restart and we are going to recover time”.

Initially, the work was contemplated to be completed in 2024, months before the end of the López Obrador administration, however the president reported that its start-up would be brought forward to December 2023.
