The Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED) reported that it will carry out temporary power cuts in some circuits with poor performance, with the aim of achieving a sustainable reduction in losses and guaranteeing the financial viability of distribution companies.
The entity explained in a statement that it has carried out an ambitious program to change transformers, repowering and network improvements, which has allowed greater stability in supply.
It indicates that it has intensified the fight against electrical fraud, one of the main causes of system losses.
However, he warned that to achieve a sustainable reduction in these losses and guarantee the viability of distribution companies, additional measures are required.
“We cannot continue with the same model without this affecting the future of electric service for everyone,” he said. He recalled that during the pandemic and the subsequent economic recovery, the Government prioritized not interrupting the electrical service, even at the expense of the finances of the EDEs, because at that time the most important thing was the well-being of the people.
“Today reality presents us with a new challenge: strengthening the sustainability of Edesur, Edeeste and Edenorte. As part of this process, some poorly performing circuits will need to be temporarily adjusted. This is not a setback, but rather a necessary step to ensure that more sectors can receive quality service under optimal conditions,” he highlights.
He acknowledges that these adjustments could raise concerns, but reiterated that the ultimate goal is to build a more efficient and reliable electrical system. He called on people to be part of the solution, by regularizing the service and supporting efforts to eradicate electricity fraud.
