The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and the RD Vial Trust announced that, starting January 15, a leveling of rates will be implemented in some tolls.
This measure seeks to correct historical differences and guarantee the maintenance and continuous development of the country’s main roads.
¿What does this leveling consist of??
The authorities explained that some toll stations, which currently have a rate of RD$60, will increase to RD$100, to align with other modern roads, such as the Santo Domingo Beltway and the Eastern road corridors.
Rates for light vehicles, buses and trucks will also be adjusted proportionally, ensuring a fairer and more balanced system for all users.
Why is this measure important?
This leveling, in addition to correcting disparities in rates, also seeks to:
• Guarantee constant maintenance of roads.
• Improve road safety and reduce risks on the roads.
• Optimize signage and traffic flow, which will save time while traveling.
Direct benefits for citizens
The MOPC and RD Vial explained that thanks to this measure, users will enjoy better maintained roads, with adequate signage and less congestion.
In addition, key road projects that connect important regions can be financed, boosting the country’s economic and social development.
In recent years, more than RD$29 billion have been invested in projects such as:
• Bani ring road
• Duarte Highway Expansion
• Barahona-Enriquillo Highway
• Beltways in Azua, Navarrete and San Francisco de Macorís
According to the MOPC and RD Vial, these works not only improve connectivity and mobility, but also raise the quality of life of millions of Dominicans.
Transparency in the use of resources
Both entities reaffirmed their commitment to transparency, guaranteeing that every peso raised will be invested in improving and expanding the country’s road infrastructure.
Modernization of the toll system
The road system is also being modernized with advanced technology:
• Increased use of Fast Pass (from 15% to 60% in 2024).
• Installation of more lanes enabled for Fast Pass, reducing waiting time.
According to the institutions, these improvements will allow a more agile and comfortable experience for all users.
