The rector of the university will be elected only for a period of 5 years and will not be able to run for office, nor be re-elected in the 2 periods following the one in which he was elected.
Deputy Ana Giselle Rosas Mata, from circuit 4-6, presented to the national assembly a bill that modifies the article of law 4 of 2006 that reorganizes the Autonomous University of Chiriquí.
The bill seeks to eliminate the re-election of the rector Etelvina de Bonagas.
Deputy Rosas explained that the unachi is a good university but the politics behind it is not, which is why she presented the draft to free the university from political control and allow administrative change.
In its article 1, the preliminary draft modifies what is established in article 36, the article of law 4, being as follows: “The rector of the university will be elected only for a period of 5 years and may not apply, nor be re-elected in the 2 periods following the one in which he was elected. The deans, vice-deans, directors and deputy directors of Regional Centers will be elected only for a period of 5 years with the same procedure as that which governs the election of the rector”.
Article 2 modifies article 36 of Law 4 of January 16, 2006, while article 3 establishes that it will take effect the day after its enactment.
