The Chamber of Deputies will issue until February 17 or 18 the call for the election of the head of the Superior Audit of the Federation (ASF), which will make it easier for the current auditor David Colmenares to register to seek re-election after presenting, on the 20th of that month, the third report of the 2024 public account.
The president of the ASF Surveillance Commission, Javier Herrera Borunda (PVEM), told the members of that body that he would schedule a meeting this week where the call and dates for the process would be approved.
Yesterday, at a press conference, the coordinator of Morena, Ricardo Monreal, stated that “it is almost certain that we will launch the call around February 17 and 18 so that we can conclude the examination of those registered and the entire procedure that will be carried out at the beginning of March.”
Colmenares was appointed auditor for a period of eight years on April 15, 2018 and the Chamber must decide no later than March 14 of this year whether to elect a new head of the ASF or re-elect the current one.
That is, Monreal indicated, the process of registering candidates, interviews by the Surveillance Commission and the designation of a shortlist to be presented to the plenary session, will be carried out between February and March, when it will be defined whether “there is a new auditor or, if the plenary session determines it, even ratify” Colmenares.
The process was delayed because, members of the commission explained, Colmenares himself asked the deputies to present the report before the call is issued, even if he decides not to register. Everything indicates, they pointed out, that this courtesy was granted.
This decision will only allow the 23-day period provided for in the Inspection and Accountability Law for the replacement to be met. The call must open a period of 10 days for registration of applicants, five to analyze the applications, five more for individual interviews and three to issue an opinion and propose a shortlist to the full chamber, so that the auditor can take his oath on March 15.
