Some 45,000 quintals of onion will be imported for the next two months, according to the Potato and Onion Agrifood Chain, these will enter the country from July 1, 2022.
The measure was adopted to avoid shortages of the item during the months of July and August 2022, assured the coordinator of the Chain, Jorge Santamaría.
Santamaría stressed that onion production could be affected by the weather conditions that affect the Highlands, in the province of Chiriquí.
He stressed that the 22 missing onion containers with 525 quintals within the Trade Promotion Agreement with the United States were also taken into consideration.

The National Director of Agriculture of MIDA, Reynaldo Solís, stressed that Panama has not been self-sufficient in onion production, but that it is on the way to this and that for these months the rain is affecting onion production in the Highlands.
