The Foreign Ministry and the Partido de la Costa will hold the “Malvinas Nos Une” marathon next Saturday, February 11 with the aim of “promoting sport” and generating “collective memory and awareness” about the sovereign rights that Argentina has over the Malvinas Islands.
“Its objective is to promote sport and the active participation of citizens, generating memory and awareness around the Argentine claim of sovereignty”, Foreign Ministry said about the event in a statement.
The competition will take place on Saturday, February 11 in Costa del Este, Partido de La Costa, and will also have a display on Malvinas that will be located in the starting area of the race and may be visited by the general public.
The exhibition will be in charge of the Secretariat of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic, a body under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The goal of the marathon is to contribute “to the promotion of sports and culture, generating a healthy imprint on young people and in the same way generate a massive accompaniment of the families”, specified the text of the Foreign Ministry.
The activity also will have a military band that will accompany the arrival of the marathon runners and the award ceremony.
At once, White Helmets, which depends on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will participate with a health post in the central area and another lifeguard.
In this way, the organizers seek “work in coordination with the health area of the Municipality”, and “thus guaranteeing a rapid response to any emergency,” it was reported.
Runners may register the same day of the competition from 9, at Calle Los Pensamientos 378, and they will be able to choose one of the available modalities: 1 Kilometer for children, 5 Kilometers for recreation and 10 Kilometers competitive with prizes.
The proposal is free and freeopen to the general public and those who participate will be able to pick up a kit that includes a marathon T-shirt with the legend “Malvinas Nos Une”, they detailed in the statement.
The initiative is part of the marathon circuit “La Costa Corre” that the Partido de La Costa carries out during the 2023 season.
