With the aim of providing solutions for the benefit of the population and areas affected by oil spills in the country, the Ministry of Production (Produce), through the National Program for Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture (PNIPA), announced that it will grant grants for more than S/ 1 million for fishing innovation projects.
According to Produce, although there will be various projects that will be able to apply, in the categories of adaptive and applied research; as well as extension services or technical assistance, and capacity building in fishing and aquaculture, this time the proposals that are related to the events that occurred in Ancón will have a special bonus.
He indicated that these can be oriented towards research for the bioremediation of the coastal marine ecosystem affected by the oil spill, technical assistance to communities of artisanal fishermen for the identification of innovation opportunities in the face of ecological disasters, among others.
However, the institution mentioned that it is also possible to co-finance projects to strengthen capacities in filleting, vacuum packing and transportation of hydrobiological resources; administration of artisanal fishing landings, obtaining an artisanal fishing diver license, reuse of waste, handling of oily waste in artisanal fishing landings, among other difficulties in this subsector.
“We hope to receive projects that can contribute to the mitigation of impacts caused by the oil spill, as well as those that explore technical assistance issues in the vacuum packaging of hydrobiological products, for the preparation of commercial cuts of fishery products, the use of applications in the marketing of fishery products, among others”, said David Ramos, executive director of the PNIPA.
These initiatives will have an execution time of six months as it is the last window of the first phase of the PNIPA.
