The government will inject S / 1,800 million in credits for family farming, with interest rates of 3.5% to small farmers in the countryside, reported this Monday the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Oscar Zea.
“On the subject of credits (to the countryside) we are going to inject S/ 1,800 million into this sector and give credits to producers with low interest rates of 3.5% to benefit and have access to small producers, primarily from agriculture.”, said the minister in his virtual presentation before Congress.
He added that Midagri has already advanced the process of acquiring 1,000 duly implemented agricultural tractors, and to finalize it, an Emergency Decree will be issued for the immediate purchase of equipment in favor of producers.

“S/ 344 million will be invested and meetings and quotes have already been held with officials from the embassies of India, Brazil, and the United States, and we are awaiting a similar work meeting with the Chinese embassy.”, he detailed.
In his presentation, the head of the Midagri also pointed out that “the food security of the population is at risk” due to the international increase in fertilizers, aggravated by the war between Russia and Ukraine.
He indicated that another of the measures is the attention to the producers of the coffee chain of the central jungle, “that have been affected and will be supported through the Agroperú Fund, where a budget ceiling of S/ 200 million has been allocated, as well as the delivery of 20,000 tons of natural fertilizer”.
FAE-Agro
At another time, Zea indicated the making of changes to FAE-Agro, which has a capital of S/ 2,000 million, but has not been able to reach small producers with timely credit.
“This is due to having been bottled, but now a new proposal has been made for direct and immediate delivery to benefit from greater resources.”, he commented.
Likewise, the minister stated that the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) will allocate S/ 700 million for the acquisition and support of producers in terms of fertilizers.
islands guano
Óscar Zea pointed out that the Midagri will promote the use of guano from the islands as a natural fertilizer to serve the crops of small farmers.
“We must take advantage of the use of guano from the islands, which in previous years was exported at S/ 140 per bag (50 kilos) and only 20,000 tons per year were extracted. But now, the goal of quintupling extraction to reach 104,000 tons of this natural input is going to be reached.”, he specified.
In this sense, the minister maintained that the production and extraction of 90% of this natural fertilizer will be destined for the country’s small producers.
