The Minister of Finance, José Antonio Ocampo, confirmed that They will eliminate from the tax reform project the proposal that seeks to tax extraordinary gold exports with a 10% rate. The statements were made by the head of the Treasury portfolio after his participation in the forum organized by the economic studies center Anif ‘Colombia’s economic perspectives against the new government’.
(Tax reform raises tax on oil, coal and gold).
“It will be uncontrollable, much of the gold that Colombia exports is smuggled, and the other thing is that there are many large gold companies working with small producers, and we are interested in promoting small producers, as well as agricultural producers, industrial or services, the popular economy”, the minister said.
Within the framework of the event, Ocampo also reiterated that the idea with these taxes on extractive industries is to improve the contribution of the natural resources sector to the financing of the public sector, “Basically because it is booming internationally and we are capturing a bit of casual income from the sector.”
(Tax reform would achieve additional sources for $25.9 billion).
The minister also confirmed that another of the changes that will be incorporated into the reform is related to the proposal to remove benefits from fuel prices in border areas, an idea that was rejected by several sectors.
“It has some logic, because the situation we have is that there is a lot of contraband, but on the other hand, we have rather to strengthen controls”clarified the head of the portfolio.
