As a result of the bomb threat last Tuesday at the College of Sciences and Humanities (CCH) Oriente, the campus authorities determined as a security measure the inspection of backpacks and large bags, in order to prevent the entry of possible large explosive devices.
Through his social networks, he noted that to reinforce security within the campus, “every large object or bag will be checked by security personnel.”
He clarified that the objective is to protect the integrity of the Ceceachera community, as well as maintain the peace and tranquility that a campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico must have, especially due to the series of bomb threats that have been registered in the last five weeks.
Although these threats have decreased in the last 15 days, there are already more than 30 in high school campuses, faculties, schools and institutes.
The CCH Oriente points out that the measure adopted does not seek to invade the privacy of the students, but rather to prevent the entry of objects that could put the community at risk, although in other faculties this measure has been criticized for considering that it violates human rights.
Strikes continue in seven faculties
As for the strikes, they are still maintained in seven faculties, which are Accounting and Administration, Philosophy and Letters, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Architecture and Higher Studies Zaragoza.
Last Wednesday, 82.9 percent of Architecture students voted to continue the strike. Veterinary students determined the same thing yesterday, while 64 percent in Engineering decided to maintain online classes. No agreements have been reached in the dialogue tables of Medicine, Psychology and Accounting.
The Faculty of Chemistry reported yesterday that on November 3 they return to in-person classes, after three weeks of online activities following a bomb threat.
Among the main demands of the petition lists, greater security on campuses stands out, as well as illuminated paths and panic buttons, since at night they are often victims of assaults.
