The Iberostar and Gran Caribe hotel groups plan to build a new 750-room hotel on Santa María del Mar beach, 20 kilometers east of Havana.
The project will be carried out through the mixed company Iberantilla SA, constituted in the most recent edition of the International Fair of Havana.
In the construction of the hotel, the Gran Caribe Hotel Group will be the owner of the asset, while Iberostar will operate it, explained the specialized site Hosteltur.
“The 750-room five-star hotel will be newly built and they estimate that the work could take up to four years,” the publication added.
Mishmell Machado, director of Empresas Mixtas de Gran Caribe, told the press that the hotel will be built “under the concepts of a sustainable and environmentally friendly product.”
The Gran Caribe Hotel Group manages a group of tourist facilities with different characteristics and brands in the Cuban tourist poles, among which several hotels appear under the all-inclusive model.
For its part, Iberostar operates hotels in important Cuban tourist destinations such as Varadero, Havana, Cayo Ensenachos, Cayo Guillermo and Trinidad.
