Universities will continue to apply the Academic Measurement and Orientation Test (POMA) and the Academic Aptitude Test (PAA) as a requirement to study Education, until those that are going to replace them are duly elaborated and validated.

The information was offered by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Evarista Matías, within the framework of the Seminar on Innovative Practices 2022, promoted by the Salomé Ureña Higher Institute of Teacher Training, (Isfodosu).

Redefine presidential goal

The educational authorities are redefining the presidential goal regarding teacher training for excellence and are in the process of preparing a new entry test for the education career, contextualized and adapted to the Dominican reality.

The decision to develop a new test for admission to the teaching career is part of the recommendations made by the special commission that was formed to evaluate the presidential goal “Excellence Teacher Training of the Dominican Republic”which was the result of a process of educational reforms, with the aim of improving the quality of education received by future citizens and which has now acquired the character of public policy.

Update teacher training

At the ceremony, the Minister of Education, Angel Hernandezcalled for the training of professionals in the education sector to be reviewed and updated, so that teachers can guarantee the quality learning that students need in the classroom.

He stated that “there must be a great discipline in the training of teachers, so that they can guarantee it in the training of the new generations.”

“This pre-eminent role that the teacher has in the classroom must be reinforced, so that the family and society in general support him, and thus unite in the exclusive and central concern that time be dedicated to fundamental learning”, pointed out the minister when pronouncing the central words of the activity.
