The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, presented a progress report on the resources to defray the cost of the pathological study of the conditions of the Alfredo Cantón Institute, in the District of San Miguelito, (in charge of specialists from the Technological University of Panama ). This occurred during the Municipal Council held in the campus gym.
Gorday de Villalobos detailed the resources to start the adaptation phase of some areas of the school, the temporary move to other facilities, the use of the laboratories and the support in conjunction with the Deputy Minister of Security, Ivor Pitti.
The authorities met this Thursday, August 25, to report on the responses in terms of security and infrastructure to the Alfredo Cantón Institute.
“It is very important to begin this articulation with the local government so that education becomes the bulwark and that star that we want to shine throughout the country. It is important as a local government, because a response has been given, the process is accompanied by the Ministry of Education and our regional ones”, deepened the head of the educational portfolio.
The Alfredo Cantón Institute, built in 1969, currently has an enrollment of 1,641 students, who are served in two shifts by 98 teachers in 30 middle and high school classrooms.
In the Municipal Council were the mayor of San Miguelito, Héctor Valdés Carrasquilla; the student representative, María Rodriguez; the campus director, Cirilo Calié; the president of the Parents’ Association, Hazen Garrido; and corregimiento representatives.
In addition, Fany Solís, National Director of Engineering and Architecture at Meduca; Mireida De Gracia, director of the Fund for Equity and Quality of Education (FECE); Also participating were Yessenia Vega, Regional Director of Education of San Miguelito; César Caballero, president of the Municipal Council of the district; Nicolás Barrios, mayor of Amelia Denis de Icaza; Sheyla Grajales, (Victoriano Lorenzo); Gertrudis Kirton (Arnulfo Arias Madrid); Chayan Polo (Omar Torrijos) and Juan Barsallo (Mateo Iturralde).
