The parents of Seiler José Sieiro Mata, 27 years old, murdered in Santa Bárbara (Monagas), are concerned because the 8th Trial Court of Caracas convened a hearing immediately without giving them the chance to be present at it. .
This hearing was called by Judge Aquiles Ignacio Vera in coordination with Prosecutor 48 Marina Mata. “We are surprised that a hearing was called half an hour in advance, the court knowing that we are in the state of Monagas, where we reside,” commented Carlos José Sieiro Villahermosa, father of the murdered boy.
“Those who are imprisoned for this fact committed a serious crime and are not allowed to be granted any procedural benefits until they have served three-quarters of the sentence. But in this case they have not been convicted,” commented Sieiro Villahermosa.
“We ask, as indirect victims, that today’s hearing, which was called immediately, be postponed, because we want to be at those trial hearings,” Sieiro Villahermosa declared by telephone.
José Ramón de Sousa Mata (El Pelón), who allegedly fired the firearm, is being prosecuted for the murder of Seiler José Sieiro Mata; Miguel Ángel Small Bermúdez (Chorro de Humo), driver of the van with logos of the Anaco mayor’s office where the accused were traveling; Gabriel Azuaje (El Renco), Francisco José Mata (Kiko) and Alejandra García Díaz.
The murder of Sieiro Mata occurred on September 21, 2014 on El Retiro Street, Santa Bárbara municipality, in Monagas state. Sieiro Mata was traveling on that road with his vehicle when he was intercepted by a truck that blocked his path, from where Small, Azuaje, Mata and De Sousa got out.
These people were acquitted by the 1st Monagas Trial Court led by Judge Indra Requena Salas in a hearing on June 22, 2021. That same day, the prosecutor Jesús Reyes expressed his rejection of such decision and filed an appeal with suspensive effect. which prevented the release of the accused until the Court of Appeals ruled.
Three months after that act, the Public Ministry, through prosecutor Eunisis del Carmen Millán Peña, requested the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice to file the trial in another entity due to the scandal and alarm that the event caused, which could “significantly affect the parties.”
In responding to that request, the Criminal Chamber ordered the process opened in Monagas against four people accused of the murder of Seiler José Siero Mata, 27 years old, to continue in Caracas.
And because of that order, the start of the trial against Small, Azuaje, Mata and De Sousa was convened for this Thursday.
