The CEO of Casa Andina, Juan Stoessel, warned that the arrival of tourists international visitors to Peru would only reach pre-pandemic levels (in 2019 it reached 4.4 million visitors) in 2030.
“This year we are growing around 4% compared to last year and that will take us to have 3.4 million tourists, but it was expected this year to return to pre-pandemic numbers,” he stated from CADE 2025.
One of the great bottlenecks to recovering the levels of six years ago, as he explained, is the crisis that Cusco is going through due to the entrance to Machu Picchu. “In-person tickets continue to be sold, there is a problem with the buses that take you to Aguas Calientes,” he added.
Likewise, he warned that to date 2026 tickets for the citadel have not been put on sale, something that generates a bad image for the country internationally, and prevents people who plan their trips in advance from having Cusco as a possibility.
For Stoessel, the new cabinet should leave things on track for the next administration, so that there is a faster recovery of the sector. “We have not been able to close maintenance contracts for tourist roads,” he highlighted.
“Everyone talks about the northern beaches, but they have no road, no water, no drainage. They are beating us because we have no basic infrastructure,” he told Peru21.
