They value measures on employment and industry

Before President Luis Abinader’s accountability speech yesterday in the National Congress, the Employers’ Confederation of the Dominican Republic (Copardom) and the Higher Community Technical Institute (ITSC) highlighted the measures on labor and informality and the country’s incursion into the semiconductor industry.

The president of Copardom, Laura Peña Izquierdo, pointed out that the fact that more than half of the workers remain informal shows that the main challenge continues to be structural in nature.

He said that the reduction of informality constitutes a necessary step to consolidate a fairer, competitive and sustainable labor market. However, it must be recognized that the structural challenge persists and requires comprehensive actions that encourage formalization.

He indicated that, although important progress has been made, it is essential to promote profound reforms that allow for the sustainable transformation of the Dominican labor market, such as updating the Labor Code.

While ITSC recalled that the country is advancing through international academic agreements and strengthening the training offer, with the aim of guaranteeing the qualified personnel necessary to join the competitive semiconductor industry.

José Ramón Holguín, rector of the ITSC, expressed that this mention constitutes recognition of the sustained work carried out by the institution in the design and implementation of technical programs aimed at responding to the demands of the national productive sector and global technological trends.
