The Ministry of the Environment issued a statement due to the increase in the wave of mosquitoes at the country level. In this sense, citizens in general and municipalities in particular are urged to take the necessary precautions with mitigation and containment measures.
The entity recommended adopting simple tasks such as cleaning vacant lots, eliminating hatchery containers (bottles, cans, covers, planters, and everything that can serve as a hatchery).
Likewise, the Ministry reminds the municipalities throughout the country of the importance of complying with the precepts established by Law No. 3,956 “Integral Management of Solid Waste in the Republic of Paraguay” which in its article 22.- establishes: They are objectives of the present law:
A) Guarantee that solid waste is managed without endangering health and the environment, improving the quality of life of citizens;
B) Prioritize the reduction of the amount of solid waste, as well as avoiding the danger that they may cause to health and the environment;
C) Promote the implementation of planning, inspection and control instruments that favor the safety and efficiency of integrated solid waste management activities;
D) Ensure citizens access to information on public action in terms of comprehensive management of solid waste, promoting their participation in the development of planned actions;
E) Improve the environment and quality of life, with efficient provisions in terms of health safety.
The same legal body establishes in its article 92.- of Municipal Competence. The municipalities are responsible for protecting the environment and cooperating with environmental sanitation, especially with regard to urban and home cleaning services, including all phases of integrated solid waste management.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of the Environment, as the regulatory entity of the National Environmental Policy and the Environmental Laws in force, will take the necessary precautions for the faithful fulfillment of the same, through the control and inspection mechanisms.
