With a view to promoting the expansion of the agricultural activity and ensure greater food production In the coming years, more than 700 producers met at the XXVI National Meeting of Leaders of the Agricultural Sector, a congress that culminated with eight proposals to guarantee the food security in the country.
This year, producers exchanged experiences and perspectives on what the agricultural sector to meet the demand of millions of Dominicans, tourists, immigrants and export markets.
One of the main conclusions they reached is that it is necessary to establish a Investment Fund for the Food Safetyan instrument that is handled by the Agricultural Bank“at reasonable terms and at competitive interest rates.”
In a joint statement, the producers suggested the broadcast of a sovereign bond of the Treasurywith a maturity of 20 years, to form this fund.
Other proposals
Producers also suggested strengthening and expanding the agricultural insurance incorporating, in addition, a parametric insurance.
They also insisted on the promulgation of an implementing regulation for the Law 368-22 of Territorial PlanningLand Use and Human Settlements, in order to delimit land with an agricultural vocation.
They also recommended introducing a bill to Congress legal reform and institutional of agricultural sectorto update and review the legal framework of public sector organizations linked to this productive activity.
