The Spanish Civil Guard dismantled a criminal network dedicated to cocaine trafficking from Colombiawho hid the drugs in cans food spices. The investigation began after the interception of a shipment of 1,800 kilos which pretended to contain turmeric, paprika and thyme.
The agents detected the irregular shipment at the airport Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajasdestined for a merchandise distribution company in Badajozwest of the country. After an inspection, the false labeled of the packaging, which used trademarks registered in Colombia to appear legal, according to the Home Office Spanish.

A first analysis to detect narcotic substances gave positive results, confirming the presence of camouflaged cocaine among the seized condiments. This led to the arrest of the person in charge of the company receiving the merchandise and the investigation of two of its workers.
Laboratory confirmation and seizure
The intervened spices were sent to the toxicology laboratory of Sevillewhere it was confirmed that, mixed and camouflaged among the spices, there were 42 kilos of cocaineequivalent to some 200,000 doses.

During the investigation, a neighbor of Madridof Colombian nationality, with family ties to the person responsible for the shipment from Colombia.
Admission to prison and judicial charges
Once they were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, both the person in charge of the distribution company and the woman involved were ordered to go to prison. Both face charges for the transportation, reception, distribution and trafficking of narcotic substancesin addition to belonging to a criminal organization.
