News Colombia.

On September 11, a man from Cali traveled from Cali to Bogotá to El Dorado airport, from where he was about to take another flight to Paris. But when he was already on the plane, what seemed like a normal flight for the young man turned into a nightmare: the label on his suitcase had been changed.

They made him get off the plane because he was wanted by the police and his passport was taken. “The police told one of the officers: ‘This passenger is no longer going to fly, please remove him from the flight.’ That’s when I started to get very worried because, for some strange reason, they were taking me off the flight,” he told TuBarco.

The situation was becoming more and more complicated. He was told that they were going to carry out a procedure with his checked luggage. Several suitcases were brought to the room where he was so that he could identify his, and he noticed that one of them did not belong to him, but was checked in his name.

The other luggage they took was in someone else’s name, but the one that was really theirs was there. “I told the police officer that he didn’t understand why that suitcase that was there, fuchsia, was checked in my name when it wasn’t really mine, and the other suitcase that was mine was checked in the other person’s name,” he said.

Suitcases were carrying drugs

The authorities began to question the passenger. He told them that it was most likely something “ill-intentioned” or an error by the airline, but the young man wondered how something like this could have happened, since he had personally checked in at the counter. “It’s strange that he crossed the line, because when I was queuing to check in there was no one in front of or behind us.”

The affected passenger told this newspaper that the suitcases were “contaminated with drugs” and that one of them had had its name label changed.

It would have been a mistake

When they were able to clarify the situation, reviewing security cameras and other procedures, he resorted to making a claim to the airline, which, according to him, told him that it had been an error by one of its employees.

Finally, he said that he had started a process to ask the airline for compensation for all the damages, both “physical, moral and psychological”, which had almost led to a situation that would have changed the course of his life.
