Gibara’s poor International Film Festival (FICGIBARA) announced on Tuesday the requirements to participate in its twentieth edition, which It will be held from April 14 to 18, 2026 in that eastern coastal city.
The director of the contest, Sergio Benvenuto, said in a press conference that the appointment “drives, visible and connects with many people.”
He also stressed that working on a project with a double approach, cultural and local development constitutes one of the greatest attractions of the initiative.

They can compete works of any nationalityprovided that they are in their original language with Spanish subtitles and that have ended between 2024 and the closing date of the call, on January 5, 2026.
Competence categories cover feature film and fiction short film, feature film and documentary short film, animation and experimental audiovisual.
The selected productions will opt for the Lucía Awards, main an awards of the eventin addition to collateral recognition.
The Organizing Committee of the Festival said that in the coming weeks the specific bases will be announced for the Cinema Sections in Poor Cinema 2026.
Founded in 2003, Gibara’s poor film festival has established itself as an alternative cinema platform in Latin Americaby combining projections, theoretical debates, diverse artistic expressions and an active community participation.
