Various projects including plays Underground tunnels in the country are being carried out with outdated technologies, according to the Peruvian Association of Tunnels and Underground Works (APTOS).
The problem, according to the entity, would be observed mainly in urban areass in the capital and large cities, where the use of technologies and practices already out of use in other parts of the region lead to workers being observed working inside tunnels, exposing themselves to possible collapses or collapses of the structures.
In this sense, the specialist in trenchless technologies and representative of the aforementioned association, Fresy Ruiz, explained that another problem is that manual methodologies are used in several works and that it is even observed prolonged street closures and affectations to the structures of the surroundings.
“You don’t have to close streets, avenues, destroy parks or have to demolish structures to build. The environment is not harmed and they guarantee the commitment to society because by not intervening on the surface, debris, filler material, noise, CO2 emissions, dust, broken pavement, traffic and effects on neighboring businesses are greatly reduced.” Ruiz asserted in the framework of a series of trainings that APTOS will be providing from the 29th of this month to Thursday, December 1 in conjunction with the Latin American Association of Trenchless Technologies.
The specialist highlighted the importance of the training, noting that “in Peru these solutions are not used for megaprojects” and added that for this reason visits will be made to institutions such as the National University of Engineering and the College of Engineers of Peru.
