They stop illegal entry of Haitians by sea into the Dominican Republic

Manzanillo, Montecristi.– A boat with 13 nationals haitians on board was intercepted this Saturday morning in the jurisdictional waters of the Dominican Republic in an area near the mouth of the Masacre River.

The interdiction was carried out today, Saturday at 7:00 in the morning by a coastal surveillance unit of the Dominican Republic Navy, and the detainees were handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM).

The boat was carrying ten men and three women. Its occupants wanted to justify their presence at a point very close to the Dominican coast, reporting that they were dedicated to eel fishing, but they could not present authorization from Dominican authorities for that work.

The detainees were transferred to the immigration processing center of the DGM in Dajabón, who thanked the support of units of the Dominican Republic Navy that monitor the maritime coastline of the north of the country, to prevent traffickers of undocumented immigrants from trying to introduce undocumented Haitian nationals into Dominican territory by sea.

The Director General of Migration, Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee BallesterARD, highlighted the importance of these interdiction and combat operations against illicit activities, to guarantee security and defense of national interests. He emphasized that the DGM will continue to work together with the maritime and military authorities to protect national sovereignty and our territorial integrity.
