The Security authorities of the Government of Mexico reported this Saturday, October 4 that arrested the alleged “leader and main operator in Mexico” of the Aragua Train, in addition to “two of its direct collaborators.”
The Ministry of Citizen Security and Protection (SSPC) of Mexico City, in a statement, confirmed the arrest of Nelson Arturo Echezuria Alcántara, aka “Nelson”. The 29 -year -old man was pointed out for the crimes of trafficking in persons, drug sales, homicide, kidnapping and extortion.
Omar García Harfuch, head of the SSPC, also said that Echezuria is considered “intellectual and material author of various femicides.”
Together with Alias ”Nelson”, they were arrested “two of his direct collaborators” identified as Lucas Alberto Vielma Rojas, 37, and Marcos Gabriel Ortega Sotillo, 36. All are of Venezuelan nationality.
When they were inspected after their arrest, Vielma and Ortega “found 92 doses of marijuana, 44 crystal doses, 18 doses of stone, two cell phones and cash,” said the safety cabinet.
According to García Harfuch, the three detainees operated in the entities of Puebla, Morelos, State of Mexico and various mayors of Mexico City, that is, concentrated in the central area of the country.
The Aragua train has been identified as a transnational criminal gang that originated in a Venezuelan prison. Its leaders and members have been pointed out of crimes as homicides, human trafficking, drug trafficking, extortion, among others. The Venezuelan authorities have said that the band was dismantled after the intervention of the Tocorón prison in 2023.
This week was also known another arrest of an alleged leader of the Aragua Train in Colombia. This is José Antonio Márquez Morales, aka “Caracas”, who is indicated by the Colombian National Police as “the main logistics and financial articulator” of the band in that country.
