One of the monkeys housed in the former La Plata zoo was stolen, confirmed municipal sources, who also indicated that the corresponding police report has already been filed.

According to Télam, this Wednesday it was noticed that the fabric had been damaged in a sector of the enclosure where a couple of titi monkeys were housed and later it was confirmed that the male was missing.

This specimen had already been stolen, along with the female, in February of this year, but both were recovered in Punta Lara, Ensenada district, where they had been put up for sale.

It was indicated that given the possibility that the animal had escaped and was in the area, they waited a day to look for it and this Friday the corresponding complaint was made at police station 9 in the capital of Buenos Aires.

“They are monkeys that, having been born in captivity, have no possibility of living on their own”indicated property authorities and added that for this reason “It is necessary that these animals, which have been raised in the care of specialists, are always well cared for and assisted.”

On June 4, 2018, the now former zoo closed its doors and, at this time, a large number of animals were moved to reserves.

Currently, the Municipality is working on a reconversion and reopening project for the biopark located in the forest, under a species conservation, education and research program.
