Santo Domingo.-The Latin American Network of Non-Governmental Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and their Families-RIADIS, start from the Dominican Republic, the Regional Forum for the Exchange of Experience for the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Sustainable Development Goals and the Regional Meeting of Women with Disabilities.
With the presence of representatives from 30 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, the I Regional Forum begins until September 1st, at the Hotel Hamaca in Boca Chica.
The event began with the presence of Mrs. Cristina Francisco – Vice President of RIADIS, Mr. Pedro Pablo Acevedo, Advisor on Disability of the Executive Power, Mrs. Lucia Vásquez Espínola, General Director of Special Education of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Ángel Espinal , President of the National Federation of Disability FENADID – On behalf of the Dominican DPOs, Ms. María Soledad Cisternas Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations on Disability and Accessibility. Mrs. Addys Then Vice Minister of the Ministry of Women, Juan Ángel De Gouveia, President of RIADIS.
The main objective is to contribute to the fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities in Latin America and the Caribbean in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of this Regional Exchange Forum, the First Meeting of Women with Disabilities in Latin America and the Caribbean will be held on Thursday, September 1, with the purpose of analyzing and proposing actions aimed at the active participation of women with disabilities in the spaces of high level discussion.
