Ministry of Education, NUVI and Recolectiva reaffirm interest in correct solid waste management in the country
Santo Domingo.- Within the framework of a joint commitment to sustainability, the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD), Nueva Vida para los Residuos (NUVI) and Recolectiva have signed an agreement for the implementation of a comprehensive management program of solid waste in educational centers located in various parts of Greater Santo Domingo.
This initiative seeks to promote the separation of PET plastic bottles in schools and raise awareness in the school community about the importance of correct waste management.
The Program has begun its execution in School District 15-04, with the integration of 15 educational centers and will be progressively implemented in the schools of Regional 15 and 10. The program has the support of allied companies and institutions such as Coca-Cola. Cola, Bepensa, Polyplas (Agua Crystal), Multiform Plastics, Industrias San Miguel, Planeta Azul, Cervecería Nacional Dominicana, Alpla, AIRD and EcoRed.
Mario Pujols, president of NUVI, highlights the importance of the agreement to create a sustainable culture from schools. “The Program’s actions promote both environmental education focused on waste reduction and the placement of NUVI points for the collection of PET plastic bottles generated, initiatives that we anticipate will be of interest to students,” said Pujols.
To date, they have already raised awareness 3,597 students and 191 members of support staff, including teachers, janitors and administrative staff.
Participating educational centers include Casa de la Providencia Primary School, María Fania Encarnación Primary School, Benito Juárez Arts Education Center, República de Aruba Primary School, Francisco Ulises Domínguez School, Cristo Rey Parish School, Germán Martínez Tavárez High School, Santa Martha Primary School, Malaquías Primary School Gil, Benito Juárez Basic School, Professor Víctor Rafael Estrella Liz Polytechnic Institute, Santa Rita School, Ángel Manuel Belliard High School, Prof. Juan Bosch Primary School and Republic of Costa Rica School.
In addition, NUVI collection points have already been placed in each of the educational centers, where the process of collecting and collecting PET plastics has begun, contributing to more efficient waste management.
“It is a commitment of the Ministry of Education to develop awareness about caring for the environment throughout the educational community and this program allows students to put into practice concrete actions in that direction,” said Ancell Scheker Mendoza, vice minister. of Technical and Pedagogical Services of the MINERD, highlighting the relevance of the agreement to educate new generations on the importance of recycling and sustainability.
For his part, Juan Amell, president of Recolectiva, highlighted the positive impact that this program will have on school communities and the recovery of post-consumer bottle waste separated at source, promoting actions that promote the recycling of these containers.
The program will continue to expand in other educational centers, with a view to establishing NUVI points, first in all schools in the School District 15-04 and then in the other school districts, consolidating the commitment of NUVI, Recolectiva and MINERD to the environment and sustainable education.
