They sign agreement to give refugee financial services

The Ministry of the Interior, through the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (Comar), and the Financial for Welfare (FINABIEN) signed an inter -institutional collaboration agreement to ensure that refuge requesting persons, refugees and beneficiaries of complementary protection have access to financial services in Mexico.

The agreement includes the implementation of financial inclusion mechanisms, institutional orientation and programs focused on promoting self -sufficiency, as well as the well -being of the population with international protection needs.

“Our president, Claudia Sheinbaum, has been very clear when pointing out that human rights will be respected and the strength of the State will never be used to repress the people. These universal principles of human rights and freedoms also apply for people in context of forced migration, the applicants for asylum, as well as for refugees and protection beneficiaries” recalled Rocío Mejía Flores, general director of Finabien.

The agreement establishes a monitoring scheme through designated links, under a framework of respect for human rights, transparency and confidentiality.

“In Finabien we have the firm commitment to support our and our refugees, providing them with safe, accessible and low cost tools for the management of their resources and the reception and sending of family remittances,” Mejía added.

In the field of remittances, Finabien currently facilitates its payment in 1,700 branches throughout the country, through agreements with 40 remittances in the United States and through its digital application. At the end of 2024, the institution received about 2,000 million dollars annually for this concept, in addition to offering savings, investment and credits with social approach.

For its part, the general coordinator of the region, Xadeni Méndez Márquez, stressed that with this agreement, it is sought to reiterate that the integration of the requesting persons of the recognition of the refugee status is a collective task, which requires firm public policies, strategic alliances and a long -term vision.

“We are convinced and convinced that only through this shared effort we can guarantee the conditions that allow each history of forced migration to transform into a story of inclusion, dignity and hope,” said Méndez.

Both institutions endorsed their commitment to build a more fair, supportive and inclusive country.
