They send electoral briefcases to Guairá for the election this Sunday

The objective with this initiative is to add a total of 31 km of bike lanes, distributed in three cities of the Metropolitan Area: Asunción, Fernando de la Mora and San Lorenzo.

While the work to prepare the sections of AMABICI (Red de Bicisendas del Área Metropolitana de Asunción) enter their final stretch, many urban cyclists take advantage of the daily new road infrastructure on routes already completed.

Currently, the section that begins in the port of Asunción, passes through the Costanera Norte, the Corredor Vial Botánico and Avda. Primer Presidente to the Parque Guasú Metropolitano, is very close to completion. There are only a few missing vertical signage, among other billboards.

On the other hand, progresses another section that also begins in the port of Asunción and extends to the campus of the National University of Asunción (UNA)in San Lorenzo, where before there was no bike path, so its layout is built from scratch.

The objective with this initiative is to add a total of 31 km of bike pathsdistributed in three cities of the Metropolitan Area: Asunción, Fernando de la Mora and San Lorenzo.

In it Asunción Metropolitan Area (AMA) There are currently 27 bike lanes that have a total length of 58 km: 13 in Asunción, 6 in Luque, 3 in Fernando de la Mora, 2 in Capiatá, 1 in Mariano Roque Alonso, 1 in San Lorenzo and 1 in Villa Elisa respectively.

However, these bike lanes are not connected to each other, Therefore, they are used mainly for recreational purposes, and not for the adoption of the bicycle as a means of transport.

In the future, the AMABICI bike path network has a design for a total of 600 kmaiming to connect 11 cities in order to promote a more sustainable multimodal mobility.

All of this arose in a participatory and collaborative manner, after workshops held with the public, the authorities of the municipalities involved and representatives of different ministries.

The Funding is from the Global Environment Facility (GEF)through a donation executed within the framework of the project “Asunción Green City of the Americas – Pathways to Sustainability”, which is led by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) and implemented by the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), together with other institutions such as the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and the Municipality of Asunción.
