After 102 operational controls in collaboration with the Vice Ministry of Fight Against Smuggling and the Armed Forces in Villazón, Customs in November seized more than 91 tons of contraband merchandise worth one million Bolivians.
The regional manager of the Potosí Customs, Patricia Trujillo Caviades, reported that among the merchandise that was most seized at the Villazón border, you can find groceries such as flour, rice, potatoes, corn, sugar, peaches with juice and oil. Large quantities of soft drinks, ciders, energy and alcoholic beverages, such as beer and whiskey, were also seized.
In addition, household cleaning implements such as disinfectants, flavorings and floor cloths were found. With regard to personal hygiene items, there are baby and adult diapers, feminine pads, shampoo and deodorants, among other products.
In Bolivia, so far this year, illegal merchandise worth 573.1 million bolivianos has been seized. Likewise, in the department of Potosí, goods worth 53.2 million bolivianos were seized, after 1,210 strategic control operations.
Among the main merchandise seized in that region in the current administration are vehicles valued at approximately 39.4 million bolivianos; alcoholic beverages valued at 4.4 million bolivianos; food for 3.1 million bolivianos; electrical appliances (white line, black line) for 330,783 bolivianos; prendería (used clothing and new clothing) valued at approximately 249,000 bolivianos and medicines with a value of 34,345 bolivianos, indicated the National Customs.
